I walk by Poetter Hall several times a week and have always wanted to get a unique view of it. This was taken this past Sunday...the Tea Room had closed for the day so I was able to get a really clean shot of the reflection of it in the window.

Just a little side note: Poetter Hall was originally known as Preston Hall, and was SCAD's first building and historic preservation project. SCAD has since purchased and restored many buildings throughout Savannah.

Almost a week ago Savannah turned into “Snowvannah!” It SNOWED HERE for almost the entire duration of the opening ceremonies of the Olympic games in Vancouver. The first white precipitation that we’ve seen in the deep south in over a decade. Unfortunately it didn’t stick around very long, but it was fun while it lasted!

Actually, the celebration already started this past weekend here on the Georgia coast with the 3rd Annual Tybee Island Mardi Gras Celebration. It was pretty chilly out with the temperature only in the 40's and a strong ocean breeze, but a good time was had by all!

2009 Spring Fashion Week, Bryant Park, Manhattan, New York

Fall 2010 Fashion Week kicks off in Manhattan today, so I thought this would be an opportune time to post this image. I took this on my birthday trip to NYC this past September and we happened to arrive at the tail end of Fashion Week and our hotel was just a few blocks away from all of the hoopla.

I really wish I could have caught the fashion diva just a few seconds earlier...he had on fishnet stockings that really completed the ensemble!

Dismal season and weather aside, Bucs fans were still out tailgating in full force - all bundled up as it was a chilly 41 degrees and overcast the entire day...so much for sunny, mild Florida weather! What a great, fun venue this is...the canon's aboard the Pirate ship fire for ever point the team scores...look closely and you can see a small puff of smoke near the center. I was hoping to capture all canon's blazing, but no such luck...maybe next time!

I took this about this time last year on our flight back from Provincetown, MA. It was an unusually clear day and yielded quite a view of this amazing city. That said, we are headed to the "Big Apple" next week to celebrate my turning another decade older! I've been driving to Tybee Island several days a week for the last couple of months. It's about a 30 minute drive and at first I was a little reluctant to commit to it (it's for a client of mine), but I'm actually glad I did-it gives me a chance to exhale and can be a very Zen-like journey.

I went into the archives and dug this one out-thought it would be a good one to kick off my favorite time of year: fall and football!

I took this in 2005, one of the many years I've gone home to participate in the UGA Redcoat Alumni Band for Homecoming. This was taken the morning of the game before the band suited up for the traditional Dawg Walk and subsequent march into the stadium. I was fortunate enough to be a member of the Redcoats when we won the National Championship with Herschel Walker leading the way. Good times and great memories!

I took this from our room on the 34th floor of the Marriott at Copley Square at about 4:30 in the morning-I was really surprised at how early the sun rises in New England...on the southern end of the coast it doesn't rise until around 6:30! We had a wonderful view, as you can see. This is actually two photos stitched together for the full effect. For a larger view, go here.

Much to my surprise, I didn't take that many photos while at the beach over the weekend-guess I just needed a break from everything, including *gasp* my camera! Or, being that it was 99 degrees (105 with heat index), I think it was just too damn hot to do anything but keep your toes in the ocean! I did get a few shots in, though...the weekend would have felt oddly incomplete otherwise.

To the beach! Off to Tybee Island for the weekend, thanks to my very generous client who offers their beach house every year. As with every summer, I've been swamped with work lately and I just haven't been able to find the time to post as much on my own blog or even keep up with visiting other blogs that I enjoy. The one thing I did splurge on after selling my Canon gear, is a very sweet lens: the 35mm Leica Summilux. I was out taking some test shots with it and this little creature landed right in front of me by our Koi pond. Love the bokeh of this incredible lens!

It's been a little over a year since I took the plunge and bought my Leica M8 rangefinder. Like many photographers, I had always coveted one (my Dad also used to shoot with a Leica back in the day) and when they came out with a digital version, I just couldn't talk myself out of it anymore. This past weekend I made a bold decision, I sold my entire Canon kit. I just couldn't justify the expense of owning both camera systems and I have been wanting to add another Leica lens to my collection. Unfortunately, I just couldn't afford, or justify, having both.

The M8 is worlds apart from shooting with a DSLR. Part of the reason I wanted it, aside from the fact that it's quite simply a work of art in design and sports the infamous Leica red dot and reputation, is that I wanted to simplify and get back to the basics of photography. Although it is digital (and I am one of those photographers that have fully embraced the digital age and very rarely shoot film anymore), it is very basic: it's manual focus only, the only meter setting is average/center weighted, there are only two shutter speeds: manual and aperture priority. Truthfully, I wondered if I would be able to adjust. Boy, did I ever-to the degree that my beloved Canon 5D just sat on the shelf for most of the year. I upgraded to the 5D Mark II, and even that model couldn't spur me to put down the Leica for long. Yes, it's very expensive camera and definitely has it's quirks, but oh my gosh, the build quality, design, and the images that the Leica glass yields is well worth it.
