This is a one of the most moving tributes I've ever seen. From the memorial website:

The Memorial features six luminous glass towers, each 54 feet high. The towers are lit internally to gleam at night. They are set on a black granite path, each one over a dark chamber which carries the name of one of the principal Nazi death camps. Smoke rises from charred embers at the bottom of these chambers. Six million numbers are etched in glass in an orderly pattern, suggesting the infamous tattooed numbers and ghostly ledgers of the Nazi bureaucracy. Evocative and rich in metaphor, the six towers recall the six main death camps, the six million Jews who died, or a menorah of memorial candles.

When we were in Boston we took a tour of historic Fenway Park, home of the Red Sox. What an amazing place...it's like stepping back in time. This bar is located at the top of the deck under the big Budweiser sign behind right field. According to our guide, the bar counter is actually the floor of an old bowling alley.

Downtown Savannah is comprised of 22 squares laid out in a grid. This particular square has a rather gruesome history and, like many of the other squares, has a resident ghost afoot. Savannah is considered the most haunted city in the country...with good reason!

It's been a very rainy summer here so far-lots of thunderstorms and power outages. I ran out in the yard and quickly snapped a few shots for a few minutes while the lightning was at bay. This was shot, handheld (no time for a tripod) in pitch black darkness with no light except for the illumination of the clouds by lightning in the distance. The red light trail is from a tower that's in the background. I've always loved thunderstorms!

...and a good time was had by all!

William L. Grayson Stadium, home of the Savannah Sandgnats, Daffin Park, Savannah, GA.

We live right across the street from the park and the stadium, which is one of the oldest in the country. I just love the energy of all the activities that are always going on. Right now baseball is in full swing, of course, and we've only recently started going to some Sandgnats games on a more regular basis. I'm a football fan first and foremost, but I am starting to get a feel for the other all american sport. They shoot off fireworks every weekend after the 'Gnats games when they play at home, so it's like the Fourth of July all the time around here!

Our pug, Piewhackit is a natural for the camera-a doggie supermodel, no doubt. Poor baby has to have surgery today and her birthday is tomorrow...she'll be 9. I know we'll be spending the rest of the week waiting on her foot and paw (but I don't really think that's any different from any other day)!

Summertime means storms this time of year here. Almost every day we get a thunder boomer. I've always loved thunderstorms...as long as the electricity doesn't go out and stay out for hours at a time...Southerners are co-dependent on their air conditioning.

Hwy 441 midway between Savannah and Athens, Georgia.

I've driven this stretch of road countless times through the years traveling home to visit my family in Athens. In the last two years, there were periods of time when I was driving this highway at least once a week due to family illness. Although I hardly had the time or energy to even think about using my camera in the midst of all this, I always kept it with me...kind of like a security blanket. I was driving back to Savannah when I took this...I remember just feeling totally spent in every respect and then I came over the horizon and saw this sunset...it was so beautiful and calming and sad.

My mother passed away in August of 2006 and ten months later, on June 26, 2007, my sister also passed away...exactly a year from today.

In memory of my sister, Barbie, and my mom, Martha.

We walked down to the riverfront yesterday to grab some lunch and the Latin Festival was in full swing despite the fact that a major storm blew in out of nowhere-typical for this time of year here on the southern coast. Luckily, we had just stepped in for lunch when it hit and afterwards I was able to get a few shots. The crowd was really thick despite the weather, so I took this holding my camera over my head and guesstimating focus and framing and hoping for the best.

The locals call it this because the main piers look like salt and pepper shakers but it's actual name is the Longfellow Bridge and it traverses the St. Charles River into Cambridge-home to Harvard, which is for those who are, as the locals would say, "wicked smahrt" (with emphasis on the "ah"if you want to sound like a true Bostonian)!

There are bronze statues of the infamous ducklings and their mother in the Boston Public Garden and I just happened by them the day after the parade and low and behold, this woman was there sitting on the bench across from the statues reading the book to her two kids. What can you say? The local Bostonians love their ducks!

We just happened upon the annual Mother's Day Duckling parade-a Boston tradition that celebrates both Mother's Day and the popular children's book "Make way for Ducklings" that was published back in 1941 and, of course, is set in Boston. What luck... and what a riot! Lots of fun!

I'm back from Boston and what a great city! It reminds me of a larger, northern version of Savannah-so much history and beauty. Needless to say, I took a bunch of photos...of course, this shot wasn't one of them...my partner took this of me as I was shooting the statue. I had the pleasure of meeting Robert Rauschenberg, along with his son, photographer Christopher Rauschenberg, and his longtime assistant...and artist in his own right, Darryl Pottorf.

The legendary artist made an appearance at our brand new Jepson Center for the Arts in April 2006.

I took this photo with my camera propped on my knee (photos were allowed, but I didn't want to be majorly conspicuious). I was really happy the way this shot turned out...they we're all having a great time and I think this photo captures the tone of the evening.

I would just like to share this photograph in memory of Robert....an amazing person and artist.

Ossabaw is a beautiful little island off the coast of Georgia outside of Savannah. It's privately owned, only accessible by boat, and mainly uninhibited...save for the owner, a caretaker, some wild boars...and don't forget the donkeys.
